Tasha Bracken
Stage:Stage II
It was the fall of 2000 and I was planning my wedding. I had a couple moles that I decided I wanted to have removed before our special day. For as long a I could remember,
I had a mole on my face that I almost considered a beauty mark. I guess it was more for vanity, but I wanted to have it removed. My dermatologists suggested I go to a plastic surgeon to ensure it was done correctly, which I did.
The results were a shock and when I heard the word Melanoma, I fell a part, not sure what the next steps were. The time between surgery and results was a very difficult time.
In the end, I was lucky and was diagnosed with Stage 2 Melanoma which was removed. My trips to the tanning beds in my late 20s I feel contributed to my a strong factor in my diagnosis.
I feel extremely fortunate and always tell people my husband saved my life because I wanted to look my best on our wedding day. If not, I am not sure what the outcome would be.
